To all the people you still have time to be

Dear future me,

How have you been? I hope you’ve been well. It’s strange to think that I’m you from what feels like a different life. I hope that in your current life, you are happy and you are free. May you find the strength to continue your life’s journey to be everything you’ve ever dreamt of ❤

From,
Somebody you used to be

The past year has been a wild ride for most of us. Come to think of it, it’s hard to believe that it’s already been a year. As we continue to wait patiently and watch the world slowly get back on its feet, we took some time to look inwards - to recalibrate our lifestyles and the way we see the world.

The COVID-19 pandemic has made many of us feel like we’re suspended in time. Though the days are tough and sometimes really long, we must try our best to remember that better days are ahead. Those warm sunny days at the beach and café hops with your favourite people are just around the corner - we just have to be a little bit more patient for things to ease back to the way it was.

One of the ways we used to stay grounded as we float through another day is by writing. It’s easy to lose track of your dreams when routine sets in and when you’re cooped up in the same place for so long. Besides, we think it's a pretty great way to express whatever pent up emotions you have within you!

While writing keeps us sane today, it also helps us remember all our yesterdays in the coming days of tomorrow.

In a way, it really helps us stay in-check with ourselves and our goals, so we won’t forget who we want to be in the future or the dreams and memories we’ve had in the past as we work towards achieving them. Writing down your thoughts is kinda like having a collection of memories at hand - perfect for when you need to pluck out a memory to keep you warm on a chilly day.

The idea of having a physical storage for our memories and the brief nature of time inspired us to create a time capsule project called Memories for Tomorrow. We wanted to help you preserve your treasured memories, moments and dreams before they get lost in the passage of time.

How it works is really simple.

Imagine if you could meet yourself (or even someone you love) in the future, what would you say? What would you like to remember? Perhaps you would like to be reminded of why you started out on this journey or maybe a quote to keep you inspired or even the things that matter to you. Now all you have to do is write it down, pick a date in the future and we’ll have it sent to you then.

Here’s a closer look on how you can be a part of our Memories for Tomorrow project!

Step 1: Choose between sending a postcard to your future self or someone else

Step 2: Pick a date you’d like to receive it (maximum of 1 year from the date of writing)

Step 3: Write away! Fill it with a memory, a quote, a story, or even a wish you would like to say

Step 4: You can even attach an image into your message

Step 5: Submit your message and you’re all set to face the future :)

We’ll also send a soft copy of the message to the receiver’s email (together with the hard copy in post) for safekeeping. Our postcard service is priced at just RM9.90. And for our friends overseas, fret not! Our time capsule services are available worldwide! This means that we can ship out your message wherever you are in the world - not just limited to Malaysia.

To take the project a step further, we’ll be exhibiting open messages for all to see. Don’t worry, your messages will be kept private and safe for the reader’s eyes only, unless you opt to publish a public message. A public message means that it’ll be open for viewers to read on our website when the selected publishing date arrives.

Find inspiration and be comforted in the words of a stranger. Immerse yourself in the raw emotions of the sender to remind yourself that you are never alone in what you feel. After all, we believe human emotions are universal regardless of where you come from or where you’re working to be.

The first step of writing is always the hardest. So, we’ve prepared some prompts to help you! Pick a random number from 1-15 to start.

  1. I never want to forget this…
  2. Thank you for…
  3. What is the most important thing to you?
  4. What’s the nicest thing you did for someone in the past year?
  5. Where do you imagine yourself to be in the future?
  6. What do you want to never forget?
  7. 3 habits you would like to break
  8. Your favourite quote and why?
  9. What do you see your future self doing as a job?
  10. What is the most memorable advice you’ve received?
  11. List 5 things you love about yourself or the receiver of your mail
  12. What is one new activity you would like to try this year?
  13. Who inspires you most and why?
  14. What’s the best thing that happened to you in the past 3 months?
  15. My favourite memory of you is…

The future may seem so far away at times, but you must remember that every little action you make today counts in the grand scheme of things. It’s easy to lose sight of the bigger picture when you’re caught up in the moment and before you know it, so much time would have already passed. That’s why we want to help you stay on track with your goals and dreams with our little time capsule project. Our wish for you is that you will always find the strength to be the person you need to be - even when the going gets tough.
